Balda: A success story of innovative technologies

2010
Group structure tightened

Within the scope of the realignment, the Group disposed of the loss makers Balda Motherson
Solution India Ltd. and Balda Solutions Hungaria Kft.

Successful IPO of the touchscreen manufacturer TPK
TPK Holding Ltd. successfully completed its initial public offering on 29 October with the issue
of around 225 million shares. After the capital increase as part of the IPO, Balda still holds
16.1 percent in TPK.

Shareholder structure expanded

The following shareholders purchased over 3 percent of the shares in Balda AG by the end
of the year:

•    Senrigan Capital Group Limited: 4.91 percent
•    Access Industries LLC: 3.53 percent
•    Kingdon Capital Management LLC: 3.04 percent.

Yield Return Investments is with 27.6 percent of the shares still one of Balda AG's largest
shareholders. The free float added up to around 54.55 percent on 31 December 2010.


2009
Balda repositions itself

After about three years, the Balda Group is again producing a profit from operating activities.

With a new Supervisory Board and Board of Directors the company has completely new executive
bodies and a new Group structure. The profitable Balda Medical is reincluded in the consolidated
companies.

Balda reduces its holding in TPK to 19.25 percent and completely repays its short-term bank
loans. The turnaround is complete. With the new strategy the way is free for new investment
and growth.


2008
Sale of the European Infocom business

Sale of Balda Solutions Germany, Balda-Werkzeubau and the Balda-Heinze companies.

TPK
Shares in the touch screen systems producer TPK in Xiamen, China, are reduced to 38 percent.

Realignment
Realignment towards the mobile telecommunications business in China as well as towards
electronic products in Malaysia.



2007
Sale of Balda-Heinze, HeRo and SMK

A long-term cooperation contract ensures that Balda can continue to fall back on this production
capacity after the sale.

Realignment of the European region
After the decline in the European production market for mobile phones the sales and marketing
organisation restructured at the start of the year concentrates on markets in addition to mobile
communications such as household, cosmetics, health care and electronic devices.

New building in Malaysia
Balda Solutions Malaysia opens an additional office and production building with a usable floor
space of around 9,500 sqm.



2006
Takeover of the location in Malaysia

Balda takes over the remaining 50 percent of the shares for the location in Ipoh. The company
carries the name Balda Solutions Malaysia.

Joint venture with TPK
Balda enters into touch screen technology. The Group's intermediate holding, Balda Investments
Singapore, holds 50 percent of the company TPK of Xiamen, China.

Foundation of Balda Motherson Solution
Balda holds 60 percent of the company located in Chennai, India. The company produces
components for companies producing in India for the mobile telecommunications industry and
similar markets.

Balda Surface leaves the Group
The reason for this is the fall in demand for PVD-vaporised surfaces for the mobile
telecommunications industry.

Metal housing components
Balda and AVY, which is part of the Taiwanese ABICO Group, will produce stamped metal
parts and die-casting components

Foundation of Balda Solutions USA
The company is specialized in developing and designing products for Balda customers
and carries out sales tasks.

Albea sold
The foil specialist in Seelbach leaves the Balda Group on 31 December 2006.



2005
Second production facility in China

Balda establishes a second production location in Beijing covering all levels of production.



2004
New location in Brazil

Balda continues its globalisation strategy and expands its position as a manufacturer of
mobile phone components with the foundation of a joint venture in Brazil. Production
facilities are built at two locations, in Manaus and close to Sao Paulo, for the injection
moulding, painting and assembling of plastic parts. In 2008 Balda closes its production
in Brazil.



2003
Start of production for Balda Medical

Under clean room conditions, the company produces components made out of high-performance
plastics for the medical technology and pharmaceutical industry.

Balda Solutions is founded in Hungary. The country is, alongside Germany and Finland, an
important location for the mobile communications industry.



2002
Development of clean room production

As part of its diversification into medical technology, clean room production is developed at
Bad Oeynhausen.



2001
Global player

Balda establishes itself as a global player with competence centres for production in Germany,
China and Malaysia. The company assumes a leading global technology position in its market
segments. It is present with its production in the international growth markets.



2000
Opening of the Technology Park

In 2000 the company lays the foundation for the Balda Technology Park in Bad Oeynhausen.
Here, one of the most modern plants in the world operates in a production area of 35,000 square
metres. Balda produces complex components from high-performance plastics, including the
assembly of electronics components.



1999
Flotation

In 1999 the newly founded Balda AG is first listed on the Neuer Markt of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.



1994
Consistent realignment

In 1994 the Balda is realigned and its strategy focuses on the mobile communications, automotive
and medical technology growth markets. 



1985
Relocation of camera production

In 1985 the camera production is sold and relocated to China.



1908
Foundation

Balda was founded in 1908 in Dresden. The company started its success story as the
manufacturer of high-quality cameras. From the first day innovation, precision and
flexibility characterised the corporate culture. Balda’s cameras achieve an international
