History
1908
Foundation
Balda was set up in 1908 in Dresden, Germany. The company started out as a producer of high-quality cameras. From the very outset, innovation and precision have shaped the corporate culture. Balda´s cameras have enjoyed an international reputation for many decades.
1985
Relocation of camera production
In 1985, production of the cameras was relocated to China.
1994
Complete reorientation
During 1994 the company is adopting a new approach. The strategy is now focussed on the growth markets of mobile communications, automotive and medical technology.
1999
Company flotation
In 1999, the newly founded Balda AG was successfully floated on the Neuer Markt of the Frankfurt stock exchange.
2000
Inauguration of Technology Park
In 2000, the company layed the foundation stone for the Balda Technology Park in Bad Oeynhausen. A production facility, which is now one of the most advanced factories at its kind in the world. It operates on a site measuring 35,000 square metre. Balda produces high-tech assemblies from high-performance plastics, including the installation of "state of the art" electronic components.
2001
Global Player
With its centres of excellence, Balda has established itself as a global player with its headquarter in Germany, and facilities in China and Malaysia. The company is one of the world leaders in plastics technology and with its modern production facilities it is involved directly in the international growth markets.
2002
Expansion of clean-room production
Clean-room production facilities are expanded as part of the diversification.
2003
Balda Medical begins production
The company produces components made of high-performance plastics in a clean-room environment for the medical-technology and pharmaceuticals industry.

Establishment of Balda Solutions in Hungary
Within Europe, Hungary counts alongside Germany and Finland as a key location for the cellular-phone industry.
2004
New partner in China
Balda continues with its globalization strategy. It sets up the Balda-Everskill joint venture, expanding its position as a manufacturer of cell-phone components for the fast-growing Chinese market.

Establishment of a joint venture in Brazil
Balda and the Lumberg Group in Germany set up the Balda-Lumberg joint venture headquartered in Manaus. The company is responsible for tool-making, injection- moulding systems and clean-room facilities, as well as assembly plants and painting plants for finishing surfaces.

New location Brazil
Balda continues its globalization strategy and develops its position as a manufacturer of mobile phone components with the establishment of a joint venture in Brazil. At two locations, in Manaus and close to Sao Paulo, production plants are developed for injection moulding, varnishing and assembling of plastic parts.
2005
Second plant in China
In Beijing, Balda establishes a second fully integrated production site.

New technology
Balda integrates the surface expertise PVD/sputtering for surface finishing by means of thinner, but highly resistant metal coatings.
2006
Acquisition of the location in Malaysia
Balda takes over the remaining 50 percent of the shares in the site in Ipoh. The company operates under the name of Balda Solutions Malaysia.

Joint Venture with TPK
Balda enters into the touch screen technology. Balda Investment Singapore holds 50 percent of the shares in TPK, located in Xiamen Indian city Chennai.

Establishment of Balda Motherson Solution
Balda holds 60 percent of the shares in the joint venture in the Indian location Chennai. Components for the enterprises in the mobile phone industry producing in India are manufactured at this site.

Balda Surface drops out of the Balda Group
The reason lies in the decline in demand for surfaces for the mobile phone industry, vaporized in the PVD procedure.

Housing components made of metal
In the future, Balda and AVY, which belongs to the Taiwan-based ABICO Group, jointly manufacture metal stamping parts and die-casting components. Balda holds 60 percent of the shares in the joint venture.

Founding of Balda Solutions USA
The sales company is the R&D centre of Balda customers in the USA.

Albea sold
The foil specialist from Seelbach is separated from the Balda Group as of
31 December 2006.
2007
Sale of the Balda Heinze, Hero and SMK
A long-term cooperation contract ensures that Balda can continue to fall back on this production capacity sold.

Realignment of the European region
The sales and marketing organization, newly structured at the beginning of the year, concentrates on additional markets aside from the Infocom business area, for example Household, Cosmetics and Electronic Devices.

New development in Malaysia
Balda Solutions Malaysia opens an additional 9.500 square-metre office and manufacturing building.
2008

Sale of the European infocom business.
 
Reduction of the stake in touch screen producer TPK (Xiamen, China) to 38%.
 
New business orientation toward infocom business and electronic devices in Asia.
